New B&W Prints by Dainius Macikenas on Exhibit Thru July 6

BPC member Dainius Macikenas is showing new work at Uptown Espresso in the South End. “Shadows of Gray” will be on view through July 6, with an opening reception Saturday June 6, 2-5 pm.

This exhibit represents Dainius’s return to film photography after several years of exploring digital image capture. The images were conceived on a recent retreat from New England’s brisk Spring to the solitude of California: Death Valley and Yosemite. Working with medium format film allows and even requires mindfulness and awareness, as each shutter opening has to be premeditated. It can become a refuge to those seeking to stay in the current moment, not rushing to the future and not dwelling on the past – but rather feeling what is here and now. And stopping the moment on film.

Uptown Espresso is located at 536 Columbus Ave, Boston, around the corner from the Mass Ave stop on the Orange Line and a couple blocks from the Green Line’s Symphony stop [see it on a map showing MBTA stops]. Hours are Mon-Thu 7am-7pm; Fri 7am-6pm; Weekends 8am-7pm.
