Spring Guide to Boston Area Artist Open Studios

Despite the snow that fell this morning (?!?!?!), spring is here! Get out and see the work of talented local artists and some of our BPC members – here’s a rundown of events throughout the spring:

Two of our BPC members are participating in Cambridge Open Studios, which takes place over three weekends, beginning April 24th. Photojournalist Elizabeth Washburn will be participating on April 24th and 25th from 12-6 at 48 White Street in Porter Square, and on the two other weekends at an as-yet-undetermined location (see dates below). Tara Jones will be showing her work at 263 Pearl Street in Cambridge on May 22nd and 23rd. Visitor information for Cambridge Open Studios can be found here.

May 1st and 2nd: Needham Artist Open Studios: BPC member Gail Fischer will show her holga and pinhole photography work. She’ll be at Gorse Mill Studios #L104, 31 Thorpe Rd. Needham Open Studios will be open 10-4 on Saturday and 12-4 on Sunday. Gail also invites you to a preview party on Friday, April 30th from 6-9pm. A complete list of participating artists and a map can be found on their website. Also happening May 1st & 2nd: Somerville Open Studios, which is so big (over 300 artists spread across the city) that SOS runs its own art trolleys to shuttle visitors between studio locations. Open studio hours are 12-6 each day.

May 7, 8, and 9th: 10th Annual Fort Point Arts Community Art Walk: This year’s event will feature artist talks and demonstrations. Hours are Friday from 4-7, and 12-5 on Saturday and Sunday.

And don’t forget our friends at Western Avenue Studios! The artists open their doors on the first Saturday of every month from noon to 5pm. Several of our members work out of Western Avenue Studios, so be sure to stop by. Western Avenue Studios are located at 122 Western Ave. Lowell, MA.

Also, congratulations to our members who were accepted to sell their work at the Downtown Crossing Art Fridays event! The market is open every Friday from 11-6 between May 7th and October 1st.
